It is with great pleasure that The Steward's Staff is considering new board members. We are meeting a great need in the community and our service is in high demand. This growing demand requires passionate, innovative, committed energy!
Upon celebrating our second anniversary, The Steward’s Staff has served over 200 youth, awarded 5 scholarships & 2 computers, escorted 50 youth on a college tour in Tennessee, and our youth leadership program, The ETHICS Society, won a $1,000 Youth Venture grant sponsored by Metro United Way. In addition to the three high schools we currently facilitate after-school programming for, starting the 2009—2010 academic year; The Steward’s Staff will also facilitate programming for two middle schools. Ultimately, we seek to facilitate programming for at least 75% of JCPS middle and high schools.
What makes serving on the board of The Steward's Staff unique? We are making significant history throughout Metro Louisville. The Steward's Staff was newly restructured (formerly Jefferson Economic Development) and re-established on May 19, 2007, and while smaller than many organizations we have uniquely made a stamp in this community through the lives of several youth and diverse community members. Our organization has received acclaim from local government, corporate and civic leadership on its zest for developing young leaders and creating quality programming focused on diversified unification for all members of the community.
If I were to join the board, what is expected of me and what can I expect? You can expect to be a part of a rich legacy. You can expect to make quality investments in tomorrow's leaders with specific goals and individualized care through your role as a board member. You can expect to enjoy serving Metro Louisville by ensuring the organization is focused on mentoring youth through leadership development, community engagement and positive reinforcement of self-esteem.
Does that mean that as a board member you are required to work directly with youth? Not necessarily. That is the primary role of our employees; however you have that option. As a board member, you are responsible for the organization’s proper governance and fiscal integrity. The annual time commitment averages 36 hours of service (this includes board meetings).
